Train sets: the gateway to model railroading
Why are you pushing HO & N scal? O scale,s Scale & G scale are ideal for all ages esprcially the newer electonic controlled sets.
I am modelling in HO gauge as well as 1/8 scale live steam. Is there any way of getting access to drawings of diesel locomotives and rolling stock to enable me to scale up some of the HO drawings to 1/8th scale.
I model in HO scale and I am currently modeling the Virginia and Truckee railroad about 1936, but here in New Zealand there are no model kits of the buildings in the countryside so everything has to be scratch built along with the rolling stock. I find this very rewarding part of the hobby and I have been modeling for the last 50 years.
No mention of mfgr(s) for “O” and “O-27”.
I have N, HO, S, & O. I enjoy them all. My local hobby shop stocks all gauges and will order yiu anything you want if they don’t have it. They tell me they sell more HO items than anything, volume wise and also $ wise. Maybe this is the case in your area?
precisely how I started in N scale, bought the empire builder set in april now 4 months later I have 15-20 locos, over 100 n scale freight and passenger cars (combined), and have started a 2x4 N scale layout.
Iam back in model trains i love it
I first stated in my teens 60’s- 70’s with MR magazine and a HO layout, went into the Marines and sold it all. I am now disabled due to military action, and my psyc’s told me to get a hobby. I went back to MR magazine and am building a 2x4 tabletop N scale Boston and Maine home town line from the 60’s and 70’s. I love it and it keeps me real calm and busy.
The biggest hurdle to getting started in model railroading is actually just doing something. Do something, don’t worry about if it is right or wrong, just do something. It does not have to be big. Small or big, kit, RTR, anything. Just try something.
To Thomas Whelpley: Thanks for your service. As an old Vietnam guy, I understand. I’m back into it after 50 years. Planning is the key!
I’m with Warren Kearns. O and O-27 members seem to have been almost completely left out of the loop.
The O gauge / O-27 aspect is being omitted by Model Railroader because they focus on Scale Model Railroading. The traditional 3-rail trains made my Lionel and others are considered ‘Toy Trains’, and are handled by M.R.'s sister publication - Classic Toy Trains.
