Train Show - Hingham, MA 3/20 & 3/21

Folks,
The South Shore Model Railway Club is having our annual Spring Train Show & Open House this weekend in Hingham, Massachusetts on both Saturday, March 20th (9:00-4:00) and Sunday, March 21st (10:00-4:00)

The Train Show is being held at the South Shore Country Club while the Open House is at the South Shore Model Railway Club across the street in Bare Cove Park.

We are also close to the West Hingham MBTA commuter rail station. The station is actually between the Country Club and the Model Railway Club, but be advised that it’s about a 3/4+ mile walk to the Model Railway Club from the MBTA Station as we’re at the end of the Bare Cove Park driveway. The weather is supposed to be extremely nice this weekend, however.

Located in the former USN Hingham Naval Ammunition Depot, the Open House will showcase our 10,000 sq. ft. building, in which we’re building our 6300+ sq. ft. HO-scale layout. We’re about 1/3rd complete, and construction on the next 60’ leg of the layout has just started. We will have up to 8 trains running at the same time on our Digitrax-controlled layout.

Adults are $5, children ages 5 to 12 and Seniors 65+ are $2. Under 4 & under are free. Parking is free.

The Model Railway Club will have refreshments available, including soda, coffee, cookies, and the like, as well as bathrooms and our White Elephant Table.

The Country Club will have two floors of dealers with over 50 total dealer tables plus an operating modular layout or two.

If you want to find me, I’ll probably be dispatching, walking around, or selling tickets. Just look for the bearded guy wearing a hat.

See you bright and early Saturday morning.

Don’t think I can make it this time Paul, although I can attest that the walk from the train station is very reasonable and takes only 5 minutes. 'Course, I just biked 9 miles to Worcester, so my definition of “reasonable” may be different than some of yours…

EDIT: Here’s a video from 2008 to complement Bob’s photos:

Thanks for posting the show Paul, I must have been asleep at the switch this time…

Some pics from past shows and the layout

Maybe if I pay attention, this won’t happen again this weekend…

If It’s B&O or Chessie it’s most likely me…running that train.

For all those regulars to visit our show, there has been some substantial work done since your last visit. I hope you can attend and enjoy yourself.

I can’t make it this weekend, but I’d recommend it to anyone who can. This is a beautiful layout, which is a great experience not only for the club members and the operators, but also the visitors. The aisles are wide and accessible, and the room accomodates a large crowd without feeling congested. Bring your camera. The scenery is very good, good enough that you may want to borrow some of their ideas for your own layout.
