I want to thank all who did the planning for the Train Show at the Science Museum in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday and Sunday this past weekend. The layouts were very good. It was a “double treat” to see the train layouts as well as the science exhibits. It was a great opportunity to led children into the hobby as well as providing a good science learning experience.
The neatest part of the show was to get to see the N Scale Clinchfield Railroad. I always think of the late great Gordon Odegard who I believe was the original builder of the layout. The gentleman at the layout was a fine gentleman who shared with me that the layout had been sold to someone else. It was a “real treat” to see the real railroad knowing that I had seen only pictures in MR about this wonderful layout.
Thank you Kalmbach for allowing that layout to “hit the road” and to be shared with so many people. I just wish the Science Museum staff, train show operators or sponsors would have advertised the event in Model Railroader. If the date of the event had not been shared with me by my brother-in-law who was a member of the Science Museum, I would not have known anything about the show. Everybody needs to get to see the Clinchfield!!
