Train Sim's, & Raildriver

I was thinking about getting one for my father in law … a life long train enthusiast.

A quick look at Amazon supprised me. Are these train simulators out of production? There was the Microsoft, of course. And … Trainz?

They are no longer produced? Lack of interest? It seems like they are only available used, or new at a few locations that still have a copy or two on the shelf.

Were train fanatics the only buyers, for the most part?

Those of you that have these sims, can you do yard work, before you head out on your long trip? Do you manuever around a yard, pulling and pushing cars, to build up the train? Alot of stopping and starting and coupling?

Has anyone used the RailDriver contraption?

Any fun with it? It seems to me, that using it doing yard work, would be kinda fun.

Or, am I all wrong about it?

Thanks
Jim

Microsoft has cancelled development on their Train Simulator , i don’t know if they’ve stopped production or not .

Trainz is alive and well , the 2004 edition should be available and they’ve recently announced they’re working on a 2006 version http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/default.htm

they’re an australian company but they seem to have good worldwide distribution , i’ve seen them in EB games and Best Buy here in canada , and it’s available at several on-line retailers

i used an earlier version of Trainz but have never tried MSTS . in Trainz you can certainly do yard work and i’m sure the raildriver would make operation more fun

Get Train-Simulator, not Trainz. I have it, and when you get it , buy him Addons, because hte stuff that comes with the route is the junkiest POS i ever have seen. Go to Maple Leaf Tracks.com, they have good routes over there. For help and opinions, go to this site, and register to post a question on the forums. www.Train-Sim.com

Raildriver is a thing that I find absolutle awesome. It gives you the chance to move a lever instead of just pressing keys. In my opinion it’s far superior to any other computer-game control system I’ve ever used. Now if I could just afford a full sized one… [;)]
