I acually own this game. The graphics and sounds are really stunning. I like driving the North American Trains too, but the Mojave Subdivision isn’t included, it’s Cajon Pass, but with Union Pacific trains. I really like the BR101, the Hitachi Super Express, and the Class 55 Deltic too. It’s a good review MRR wrote. The only downside to the game, is that it needs a powerful computer and graphics card. I use the NVIDIA GeForce 560 with WinVista 64 Bit. I get pretty good frame rates. In the end, the article and game are well done.

How does this product compare to Trainz that was reviewed in March? This was a missed opportunity to contrast two (presumably) excellent products.

It would be nice if they had a Mac version. Good article.

The Mojave Subdivision is part of TRAINZ 12.
I own both Train Simulator 2012 (Railworks 3) and Trainz 12.
Train Simulator 2012 graphic seem to run smoother
if you don’t have a layout built yet these simulator are a good alternative until you do.

They have a MAC version. Just visit www.auran.com and look for Trainz 12.
I own Trainz 12. Actually all from the start. Brilliant to build routes. I also have the original MSTS and Rail Simulator. Both are nightmares to build a route, unless you have a doctorate in software engineering. Trainz may not look perfect, but , boy is it fun and easy to build routes.

I do not have any of these but your review has stirred my interest. Will be looking further into the possibilities for me.

I have worked with TS 2012 since early Dec. 2011 and have yet to have it run. Numerous E-Mails between my self and Steam and Railworks have not provided a solution. One difference from your article was that I downloaded the software. My basic problem is that once I select a Route or Tutorials the system crashes and requires a variety of restart procedures to get it running again. The Steam and Railworks support is helpful to a point but they tend to read only the first part of your E-Mails.
My system is a Windows Vista and meets/exceeds all the stated requirements. All I can say is that there are some acceptable systems on which it might not work.

I need to upgrade my processor to get the best out of it. There’s an option to play without using the new game engine if your computer doesn’t have the full power necessary, and I find that very acceptable, though it probably runs a bit slower than normal speed. Richard Vollmar, my PC runs it under Windows Vista with no problem.
