All the train simulators have non-US content.
Trainz 2010 probably has the most US content that runs on an average computer and currently being made.
Freeware addon Eastern Kentucky 3 by CheckRail
Trainz2010 is a better buy than the new Trainz12 and runs everything available. Trainz is fun but is geared more of a “model train simulator”. The original “baseboard” configuration limit building proto routes with distant mountains that aren’t truncated.
Microsoft Train Simulator can be had on E-bay and Amazon and has been out of production for a long time. There is lots of stuff available but the graphics are not as good. If you invest in a RailDriver controller MSTS is the best sim. It gives the most feel of “railroading”. I do most of rail-simming in MSTS now that I have a RailDriver. Big proto routes are available for the sim
Payware Donner Pass in MSTS
There is OpenRails in developmental stages that runs MSTS equipment and routes, but is a few years away.
Avoid RailSimulator’s TrainSimulator2012 at all cost. The latest version is full of awful bugs and it doesn’t appear they will ever fix the problems. It is basically a UK trainsim with US stuff as an after thought.
