Train store in Rochester, NY?

I have to be in Rochester, NY next weekend and I will have a little time on Friday afternoon. I will be on the Southeast side of the city in the Henrietta and Lima areas. If you have any knowledge of where a good train store would be around there I would appreciate it. Directions would be helpful too.

Hi Tom! You may want to check out Despatch Junction!! I was there a while back. The address is 100 Station Road, E. Rochester NY 14445. They have tons of trains there. You can get directions from Mapquest, with the above address. Their webb site,( not to good ), is www.djunction.com . They have 2 stores, and this one on Station rd. is bigger & has more used trains, plus a big layout. Ph. # s are 585-385-5570. Oh, here’s another webb site! djunction@earthlink.com . They have Lionel & K-line, but I can’t remember if they have MTH. Hope this helps, John

Great Tom. There’s about 6 more Train shops in Rochester. I looked in the ph. book when I was there, but I sure enjoyed that one I mentioned. Have a good trip!

Despatch Junction is the place, in E. Rochester, just off Washington Street, not far from the exit from 490. They carry mostly Lionel and K-Line, as well as other gauges, but very little MTH. There are no other O gauge train stores of any size in the immediate vicinity of Rochester but many in the towns 15-30 miles away. There is a Despatch Junction on Lyell Avenue in Gates, not far from the airport, as well. Both have operating layouts and a large supply of trains of all gauges. If you had more time and liked large scale, one of the largest stores in the world is Ridge Road Station (check out their website) with a gigantic layout and many thousands of square feet of space for merchandise. It’s about 40 minutes from downtown along Route 104 West towards Buffalo.

I have to agree with Niel, if you got the time or can make the time, stop at Ridge Road Station. It is well worth the visit. The 2,500 sq foot train layout inside the store is worth the trip alone.

You would be about the same distance from Gargraves as you would be from Ridge Road Station but opposite direction on Rt 104. Gargraves is in Alton, NY about 35 miles east of Rochester and RRS is about 30 miles west of Rochester. Both worth checking out if you have the time. RRS has a fantastic display of G gauge, Gargraves speaks fluent O gauge. Fair selection with excellent prices.

Despatch Junction in Gates, on Lyell Ave., is their “K-Line superstore,” with lots of other stuff as well. It’s a bit more open than the main store in East Rochester, which is packed floor to ceiling with stuff. The real tracks behind the store are cool though! The nicest thing about either location is how helpful the staff is. You may have to initiate the conversation, but then the info just pours out!

I go to Ridge Road Station every couple of months just to drool over the huge displays of trains. The only negative is that they make you feel like an intruder–there are signs every 2 feet asking you not to touch; the books have been wrapped in plastic so you can’t look through them; and an employee is always in the background just in case you dare to touch anything. They even have signs in the bathrooms reminding you to flush! It’s too bad, because the place is huge and great to look through, but I just never feel comfortable while I’m in there.
