You know, I’ve got a picture of the two that came from Webshots, used for my desktop- in the picture, UP 119 is closest to the camera, and darned if you can’t make out the Jupiter’s number… I’ll guess #3, 60.
…Jupiter’s number was 60. In 1891 it was renumbered 1195.
It was definintley #60.
Anybody else?
Modelcar,
I bet you can’t find David Morgan’s middle name !
60
nanaimo…I did quite a bit of checking from data here in our {home}, office with no results…but did not go to my boxes of TRAINS magazines to search for an unusual article about Dave…that may have used his full name…Internet did not help either…so I must say for the time I spent, you are correct: I don’t seem to have it…
Yep, number 60.
Modelcar,
I didn’t want to put you through any trouble, but it looks like you really enjoy looking for answers to James’ questions. The only time I saw David Page Morgan’s full name was in his obit in the March 1990 Trains.
…You know nanaimo, It’s no problem at all…I just get wrapped up in some of this stuff and it becomes a challange to me to find it…especially railroad stuff. I really don’t recall EVER seeing Morgan’s full name printed. And…I even pulled up his ob {data}, on a web site but it just listed it as David P. Morgan, died March, 1990, etc…No mention of middle name. But now we know. Some of the stuff I really like to dig into as you may have noted: Ligonier Valley Railroad, South Penn RR and etc…By the way you seem to have data on a bunch of railroad stuff…I wonder do you have any photos of Ligonier’s two Doodlebugs…?
Quentin,
I don’t have anything on them. My earliest Trains is 2-53, just a few months to late.
This is all the index has.

Have you seen this(pop-ups).

PS-Are your two Hoosiers going to get together ?
When is the 24 going to take out the 20 ?
I want to see it, but Jeff’s temper always seems to be short term so I don’t think it will happen.
nanaimo…Two interesting subjects. The little steam train at Idlewild Park came a bit after I frequented the park…We {our school}, always attended this park on our last day of school each spring and back then that little train was pulled by a {look a like}, F-series gasoline powered little engine…
Item: Ligonier Valley Railroad established that park {for it’s employee’s}, back before the turn of the 20th century and it grew into a privately owned amusement park named Idlewild Park…and still is a very nice facility. The tracks of the LVRR used to run right through the center of it…until 1952 when it was abandoned. There actually was a very small RR depot right inside the park…{believe the building is still there} that one could board the Doodlebug that traveled between Ligonier and Latrobe…Of Arnie Palmer fame…
Now…on the 24 and 20…I am a 24 fellow…Think he is a pretty good fellow but has really fallen on hard times {on the track}…Seems he can’t recover this season but is doing better lately. Now his teammate, Jimmy {48}, who qual. 3rd for Tonight’s race, blew an engine in practice and will have to start in the back of the field…Tony, {20}, is really on a roll, I just don’t seem to be a fan of his…I know he is a good race car driver but his attitude is a bit much at times…
Thanks for mentioning the race is tonight. During Hockey Night In Canada.[:(!]
I think there is a rule that all Dales have to dislike the 24.
I like the Fords, Rusty and any driver named Dale.
…Well, THE Dale that was our hero on the track was Earnhardt with the wild number 3 of course.
As for Dales disliking the 24…I suppose they have been overcome by it too many times…When we wintered in Florida for 8 years we would go over to the track in Jan. and watch them…{all of them}, do their testing, etc…Even got sunburned sitting in the stands doing so IN JANUARY…Stopped going down for winter several years ago…Too much rat race. But we enjoyed it while we did.
PS: Guess I better make this legal…While down in Fl. we even rode Amtrak for the fun of it between Deland and Orlando…Schedule was one could go down and have a few hours of shopping or whatever and come back to Deland later same afternoon…That was fun.
Quentin,
As for the Dales not liking the 24, I was talking about myself, not the 8 or 88.[:D]
Daytona is pretty close to your Sorrento line. Are you sure you don’t need a break from winter ?
Perhaps in February of 2007 (17 months) Autotrain will have been privatized.
I believe it is Amtrak’s best performing long distance train.
…Yea, can’t say we won’t do it again short time…it’s nice to not be up here when winter sets in…
Daytona is roughly 50 miles away from the Sorento area I have the questions on…
Your info on Autotrain being privatized is news to me…and you are correct as far as I know it does make the Co. money…and believe new car haulers have been received recently or will be. I’ve been to the sanford Autotrain depot {loading area}, several times to watch the operation preparing the train for it’s daily departure…and even was allowed to board it one time to see what it all looked like…The cars were ice cold inside and it was really very warm outside. It’s quite an operation to get all aboard and all the vehicles loaded and then assemble the train to get it ready to make the northern trip each day…Enjoyed watching it. One can get a “visitors pass” to go in and watch them prepare the train as we did. At least you could several years ago…
Just speculation on my part. I have not heard anything at all about that.
I would guess privatizing Amtrak is something your President would like, not something he wants. He must have dozens or hundreds of things above Amtrak on his priority list.
…What he wants is to eliminate it all…! When Autotrain was created back several decades ago it was private industry…and they had several expensive wrecks and some other problems and finally gave up…Since Amtrak has taken it over and in charge on it’s daily runs it seems to do well. Now with new car haulers it eliminated that problem of worn out cars…It is a really long train with the passenger cars and car haulers it can stretch to 40 some cars if I remember correctly. They really have a lot of work to do to turn the south bound…{ar in the morning}, into the northbound for afternoon departure about 4 pm. Clean train, load supplies, do any repairs on equipment,…{I watched them change a generator set in a passenger car one time while loading people}…get all vehicles loaded…and then get train made up all connected together. I imagine they use HEP now…
