Time for some photo trivia!

What kind of locomotive is this?
E-3
I’m going to have to go with the E-3 also.
E3
Did EMD use the dash back then?
Old Timer
E3, My friend.
Yep,an E-3
E3
Yes, an EMD E3
E3
Definitely an E3A, very much a rare bird since less than 20 were built.
I’ll vote for E6. Sure isn’t an Alco; the 50 was the only one they had.
Jerry Pinkepank’s Diesel Spotter’s Guide says ATSF had but one E3, the number 11. Louis Marre’s Guide has a picture of it.
Neither Pinkepank’s nor Marre’s book have a roster of owners of the E6 but there were more of them than the E3, and of course the E6 was the last model with the severely slanted nose.

If what Art says is true then I’m voting E3 since it appears the number is eleven(stenciled on the side)

I saw those two vertical bars that look like an eleven but that’s not the type face Santa Fe uses for engine numbers. That was, to me, an indicator of why the pic was posted - maybe a red herring?

Alas, george745 is right. I enlarged the photo and beneath the red wings of the logo is the number 11 and that’s where it’s positioned in the book…
So it IS an E3. My opthamologist’s appointment is on Monday. Really do need new glasses!

Yep, a good old EMD E-3, just can’t fool you guys. I wonder if we could put that popcorn machine in here?
