…Without using research, I’ll say on the cowcatcher as he was that kind of a fellow.
I know that Lady Agnes MacDonald rode through the Canadian Rockies on the cowcatcher, so I’m gonna guess that one. Plus logic dictates that everywhere else would either smokey or have clearance issues, or a big danger of falling off and dying!
