Train Trivia 9/26/05 (ANSWERED)

The Mikado was decidely a too Japanese name so during War II the famous freight haulers were renamed after the man in charge of the fight against the Japanese. It was renamed the Macarthur.

I posted MacArthur.

Happy Railroading.[swg][swg]

Too easy…You UP fans in particular know this one. I promise not to tell.

Dave

I just gave it a guess and said Patton but it looks like i might be wrong [:(] but then again im from Canada [:)] and don’t know squat about that kinda thing. there is never any hurt in guessing [8D]

According to Webster’s, Mikado is the “Emperor of Japan”.

After Pearl Harbor, the Philipines, Hong Kong, Singapore and other battles, none of the Allied nations in the Pacific were fond of anything Japanese.

Only one of the Generals listed was in the Pacific for any significant amount of time during World War II. One was an American Civil War general. But I’ll never tell which one!! Not that his name is much of a secret!! [swg]

I shall return!

[:)][;)][;)]

And all but one were tanks.

I’m a Canadian, but I would have concluded that it was NOT MacArthur due to his Korean fame. Eisenhower is a distinct possibility, but I would not go for either Sherman or Patton. Sherman is a tank type, and Patton was a commander in Africa and Southern Europe.

Eisenhower also commanded the Allied Forces in Europe…not sure of his involvement in the Pacific…so that leaves MacArthur…who I am sure had Pacific fame in the Big Exercise.

I know who it was and I’m not telling, but it doesn’t matter, because we all called them “Mikes” anyway.

PS: Lotus, your daily Trivia is very cool–keep it up![:D]

You mis-spelled "Eisenhower…

General was also misspell. At any rate since 16 people voted for MacArthur, that’s the one I’ll chose.

Well, anyone who’s anyone knows that McDonald’s named their famous hamburger after a locomotive.

After, it went from being a USRA Heavy Mikado to simply being a Big Mac. [:D]

Andre

Hadn’t heard of this. Waiting for the answer.

Sort of like today’s “Freedom Fries” with your Big Mac, eh? How long before the Justice Department comes up with resettlement camps for those who take pictures of trains?
Will

I voted for MacArthur. The fact is I had no knowledge of this and looks like most agree with me, on both counts

I know this one, but I wont give away the answer!

Macarthur, although allways wished we had a locmotive named after Patton.

Yeah but the Army got there first and named a tank after him.
