It seems to me that hobby shows should not be held on holidays of importance such as Christmas Easter OR REMEMBERANCE DAY!!!

What do you think?

BB

Nov 11 and 12th isnt a Holiday in the states.

OOPS!

BB

Not oops you didnt know. I know its a Holiday in Canada use to talk to a female up by you aye. (kidding with the aye part)

Actually BB, you aren’t completely wrong; the 11th is a holiday in the US, better known as Veterans Day (which I believe has the same meaning as your rememberance day, to honor Veterans, although correct me if I’m wrong). For some reason that doesn’t deter them from putting the train show on the same weekend, but as far as I know Trainfest has always been on the Second Weekend in November, and the two just happened to coincide this year.

Dave - See you there…

Noah

Noah your right it is isnt that weird… BB I apologize to you. I did not have a calender infront of me to see if it did have the holiday.

We still called it “Armistace Day” when I was in elementary school in the 1950s – there were still plenty of World War I veterans around by the way. Most guy’s grandfathers would have served in WWI. (As a cub scout on Memorial Day parades the World War I and II vets would march with us – some of the older World War I vets and all the Spanish American War vets would ride in cars. My dad said when he was a boy some Civil War vets could still march on Memorial Day but most of them would ride in cars).

In school we would pause at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month and give thanks to those who gave their lives or health or futures in service to their country so that we could enjoy our freedoms. This November 11 it would be appropriate to similarly pause during Trainfest – a manifestation of both freedom and happiness, after all.

Keep watching – Keith Schmidt and/or I will try to post a meeting time when we can gather at the Kalmbach booth (we are still waiting to hear if Bergie can make it). I am thinking high noon makes sense giving Noah and other out of towners some time to get there, look around, etc.

Thanks

It is always a pleasure to talk to the folks from Athearn (and all the other manufacturers and dealers) and see what’s new. And each year I beg and plead for HO baywindow cabooses in CNW RED not just yellow.

OK, Keith Schmidt has set 11:30 am Saturday morning at the Kalmbach booth as our meeting time and place. I will try to bring a small sign so we all gather in the same place – failing that look for young Mr Keating in his painfully bright shirt and fedora hat.

See you all there I hope. By all means MRIA folks are welcome to join the fun.

Dave Nelson

I cant gaurantee I will show up there when I get into my drooling mode at layouts its hard to take me away from them lol. And then theres my Ok time to get broke mode and that oh well that happens so quick so thats not a problem lol.

IMHO,

It would be a great idea if the sponsors of the “Train Fest” would do something, have a display or banner honoring our veterans on Veteran’s Day. Especially considering that there are modelers that were serving during WWII, The Korean Conflict, Vietnam, and The Gulf War.

Would be a good chance for our hobby to really shine in the public eye as well as honor our brothers and sisters in uniform.!

I’ll be there, both days. Have been for the last 15 years exhibiting with the club. I’ll bring some flags down.

Folks keep watching this spot. Various people have suggested other times or even meeting both days

I will try to post something Thursday afternoon that is more or less definitive

Dave Nelson

OK last night I joined Keith Schmidt for dinner (he took the photo of last year’s Forum regulars first annual reunion) and the decision is to meet at the Kalmbach booth at Trainfest at HIGH NOON on Saturday. We hope to see all of you there!

Dave Nelson

They did appropriately honor veterans at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month and several exhibitors had signs marking Veteran’s Day.
