It’s been fun, and I’ve enjoyed communicating with some of you, but there are others out there that I can’t say that for.
I’ve had enough of rude remarks and know it all types that no one can tell anything to.
I’ve never really liked public forums, but thought this one might be a little different but it’s not.
I also don’t like the way it’s controlled, and the fact that you can’t talk about just anything you want or some monitor will edit or pull your reply or topic.
I like the model train hobby and real train chasing as much as the next person, but there’s more to life than trains.
This is actually one of the best top-notch forums around! The moderator? Bergie pretty much has let us police ourselves until flaming starts or the rules are ignored.
Rules still must be in place to keep any forum in a high quallity mode.
After visiting other Forums where porn is permitted or responses that don’t agree with the moderator are yanked…I’ve seen that MRR is the place to be! [:)] [:D][8D]
I still find it amazing the amount of info that I’ve downloaded from these threads! Where was this 20 years ago? Oh yeah, no internet back then! Had to do it the hard way…go to hobby shops and thumb through magazines.[:p]

This may sound harsh, and some of you might want to just quit reading right now, but I think it’s the truth…
I’ve been around computers, and online forums, longer than the Internet has been generally available (anyone else active on dialup bulletin boards back in the day?). This forum is one fo the best anywhere - i don’t see topics deleted because moderators diasgreed with the opions expressed by the posters or any of that sort of thing. I do see one or two troublemakers pop up that DO get dealt with by the moderator. I will also say - closed forums STINK (well, I’d use harsher words but I don’t want to get banned). When there are all sorts of restrictions on joining and so forth, you end up with e VERY closed and limited group, EVERY time. There ARE ways to truly block troublemakers, but it depends on the amount fo time a moderator wants to put in on what amounts to a free service. I know because I participate in an online gaming group and we’ve had to deal with certain troublemakers, but the guy who runs the message board takes great pleasure in stopping troublemakers. Since this is a public foruma dn not closed, it IS possible to get a bad apple once in a while, but from what I can see, they are promptly dealt with. It’s not liek Bergie is onlien 24/7, if things happen in the middle of the night, it takes at least til the next day. At least this isn’t like the Atlas forums that shut down COMPLETELY over the weekends a lot of times.
The bottom line - if you think this is bad here, then you might as well just cancel your internet account, because it doesn;t get any better elsewhere. These forums here are a good example of the GOOD things about the internet. Language is controlled, and I don’t see people contantly posting “you’re wrong, idiot, you should do it THIS way” messages all the time, either.
I’d have to agree with Randy. My experience goes back to writing code for Univac machines on punch cards, and exploring the secrets of Arpanet. These MR forums are, IMHO, among the best. I’m informed, I laugh a lot, I’m occasionally amazed and posts like “What to do about Mikey” a while back almost make me cry.
So, trainluver1, we wish you well on your quest through Cyberspace for the perfect forum. If you find it, drop us a line that we may bask in its glory, but if you wander through the wilderness for a while and come up empty-hoppered, give us a grade-crossing toot. The coffee may be a few hours old, but it will always be warm.
Sorry you have a gripe with what seems to be a very good forum maybe its you or maybe were all nuts and your right but either way hate to see a fellow train lover go to the way side it does sound thou you have other problems with your comment theres more that trains yes there is but thats what this forum is about wheather you come once a hour or once a year thats what will be in here talking about thats why its called model railroad forum not shoot the bull forum . Whis you luck in what ever you do may the smoke always be hind you and not in your eyes
Are you really sure that you are referring to THIS forum? I don’t see at all what you are talking about. As others have noted, you should check out other online venues to see how crappy they can be. I followed the rec.photos.digital newsgroup for quite some time until I gave it up recently. As you may know, newsgroups are not moderated, and this one and another photography one were the apparent target of some deranged individual(s) who continually posted off topic, vile, and totally irrelevant posts. It got that there were more off topic posts than real messages, and I got tired of wandering through trying to pick out the occasional real messages. And personal attacks! The resident trolls would post vile messages about others on the group, and post their home addresss and phone numbers. Some real sick puppies on that list.
This forum is the total opposite to that type of stuff, so I really don’t know what you are referring to. We will continue along with you, hope you have everything in your life totally sanitized the way you want it.

Sorry to see you go. I did look back over your previous post and didn’t see
where you had a “falling out” with anyone… unless I just missed it.
Just remember, this only a discussion forum… It’s not the “real” world. I have had
problems in the past, as have a lot of others. But you have to keep it in perspective.
It is impossible for everyone to agree on everything. And sometimes people
disagree to the point that it can get a little ugly. But it is still just a discussion board.
The beauty of the internet is if someone ticks you off, all you have to do is click
the little red X in the top right corner of your browser and they’re gone. Then you
can come back after you (and the other person) have cooled off.
This is the best forum I have found relating to trains. The atlas forums are pretty good, but there is more flaming and less community feel there. Good luck and best wishes, you’re always welcome back.

As others have said, there’s usually little tolerance of spam & or flaming.
Erik is usually dealing with most of the crap within a couple of days.
You have to remember, he has a day job as well!
As for speaking your mind, this forum allows a lot of leeway towards speaking your mind.
Almost everyone here speaks his or her mind on certain topics that they might feel inclined to comment on.

Sam I wish you well in your journey toward the utopia of online forums but I doubt you’ll find one as diverse & opinionated as this one.

Okay. I admit. I do owe everyone an explaination for pulling out.
First of all I was angry when I posted this topic. What made me angry was an exchange between myself and another member through our private e-mail. He wrote me out of the clear blue about something I said a while back and we went into it. His final remarks were, and I quote; I’ll be watching the forum, and every time I see that you’ve replied to a topic I’m going to run you down any way I can!..
I’m not going to reveal the persons ID, but rather think it best if I change mine, make a fresh start and let it go at that.

I think your best coarse of action would be to foward that email to Bergie and let him
deal with the guy. This forum doesn’t belong to any of us and no one has the right
