Trainplayer

Is anyone using the new TrackLayer 3.3 software from Trainplayer? If so, how does it compare with some of the other software out there.

Fun to play around with, but it is not CAD and isn’t useful for laying things out to scale, if thats what you mean.

It isn’t layout planning / design software. It’s intended to be used to add “playable” tracks for the Trainplayer module to an existing layout.

I use it in two ways:

  1. AnyRail has an export feature, in which you design and draw the layout in AnyRail then export the track plan to Trainplayer. The exported plans need some cleaning up, especially on the turnouts, but it’s a lot of fun to do.

  2. You can also download a track plan from this site or elsewhere and use the Tracklayer module to add tracks to it so that it will work on Trainplayer.

It’s fun. I enjoy messing around with it. But it’s not a design tool.

Thanks guys. I saw the adv in this months MR and noticed the addition of builders S/W. I was hoping to use it to design and run my layout. Oh well.

Guess it’s back to the drawing board.

Then you might want to invest in AnyRail. Not as powerful as some of the CAD programs, but the learning curve is extremely shallow, and it has plenty of functionality (more than enough to design a layout).
