I know its rare but how many of you have had pets that are not intimidated by the trains or even enjoy them, maybe ride on them?
My cats have had some bad experiences with my trains. The older cat liked to chew on the wires under my train table when I was younger and our new cat sent a passing 6454 erie boxcar accross the room a few months ago. He also loves to run around my room following the train that circles around my ceiling. The older cat is too lazy to chase a mouse, much less a lionel train!
as a general rule, pets and other animals don’t care much for trains. I’ve tried several experiments to get my beagle to become friends with my train, even allowing the train to play with the beagle. You can see one of my misguided experiments here:
Our small dog dislikes the train, but isn’t too scared of it. At Christmas time, she’ll eventually work up the nerve to stand near it while its running, but that’s about it. She’s more scared of the accessory noise (especially the gateman door snapping open and closed) then the train running. My permanent layout is in the basement where she doesn’t go, so that’s not a problem.
I had a g scale set back about 15 years ago that had a flat car I use to put it around the XMAS tree and I had a cat who would ride on the flat car or the roof of the boxcar got picks somewhere but don’t have a scanner or would show you.
I have a couple now who like to smack at my trains as they go buy there basicly not afraid unless I blow the horn/whistle as the smack at it but after a while that don’t really bother them.
The only good cat is a dead cat.
I would’ve subscribed to that philosophy a while ago, Jim, but they sure are easy critters to have around. Mostly. Let’s see… the current zoo of cats, hamsters and dog do not mesh well with the trains. The dog barks at the noise. I keep the most-curious of the cats out of the basement. She chose to munch on and do other things to the (now redeveloping) Apitz Forest. And I find if I look at one of the hamsters wrong, it falls over dead…

We’ve got an inside cat that for the most part leaves the trains alone. I am not fond of cats that owners do not take care of. I am currently trapping and disposing of some cats who have turned my garden into their litter box.

During my last physical, the doctor whacked my knee with a rubber hammer. Nothing moved. He told me I have dead cat-like reflexes.
I’m allergic to cats. That’s where my bias comes from.
LOL! Some of our beasts move so infrequently, I can’t tell if they’re alive or dead.
MY dog JANE, follows me down in the basement and watches the trains. When I put my mug o beer on one of the foot stools she will drink it up. Had a derailment once, she drank about half a mug, licked her chops too. Now I watch where I put my mug.

Ruh roh! Laz, sounds like Jane needs a 12 step program! And shame on you for letting her run your trains when she’s half in the bag! No wonder you had a derailment!

You already were. You’re a grown man who plays with choo choos, aren’t you?[;)]
Being called immature doesn’t bother me in the least. Just don’t compare me unfavorably to 9 year olds or call me an annoying clown/pest/thing. — [:o)]
I’d love to keep this match of wits going, but you’re not much of a challenge for me. [zzz]
I removed my last comment as didn’t want to get into a tis for tat thing and my last comment was uncalled for so to those who saw it sorry
