Do you plan to visit any tourist railroads this summer?

At long last, a new poll. I plan on visiting as many as possible.

I said no, but that may not be entirely true, as I will be taking a fan excursion in July behind Milwaukee Road 261. However, it is technically not a tourist railroad. It is a special event run on active rails. I consider tourist railroads to be dedicated tracks.[swg]

I am Visiting the Durango and Silverton railroad this june.

I plan on visiting the South Simcoe Railroad this summer.

Gordon

I have already visited the Tennessee Valley Railroad.

Plan to visit the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursion at Stettler, Alberta. Unfortunately I’m not into long range planning in the summer…too many things to do; but the excursions fill up fairly rapidly in the summer, and booking at least a month in advance is required.[^]

Yes. A group of us are going to the 20 NGRC in Denver and will spend nearly a week riding varoius Colorado Tourist Raioroads.

We, my wife and another rail fan, shall visit and ride the Georgetown Loop, the Canyon City and Royale Gorge, plus the Cumbres and Toltec. We have already been on the Durgango and Silverton; ride the last train out of Durango which has a parlor/bar car. No one under 18 can ride it and it has chairs which you can adjust and good drinks and refreshments. The parlor car passengers may also tour the whole train. Silverton is still a mining town; it mines tourist pockets, and there ae man geme there.

PS. The Canyon City and Royale Gorge has a dinner train, and we shall partake of that. I’m not sure if you can still ride in the engine for an extra fare. Ride the Georgetown Loop this summer as the present operator and the Historical have not come to an agreement concerning operations after the first week end in October. The present concessionaire owns the depot and Georgetown and the office, and much of the equipment (which is leased) and passenger cars; one the shays is already in front of the depot in Golden.

I already have been on my trip this year. The California Western " Skunk Train " is up and partially running. Sierra RR has invested over $1 million in track repairs , defered maint. and general upgrades. And this is only the beginning. THE SKUNK LIVES AGAIN!

Unfortunately, no. Here in Croatia there are no tourist railways, the nearest one is in Slovenia, and I really must find time to visit it next year! [swg]

Plan to take the Georgetown Loop again this summer as its continued existence is in question. Last month stopped in Chama on the way back from “Hillerman Country” three days before the trains started running. The street was being repaved with new gutters and a big mess. Hope they got it finished in time as there was no access to the station or parking. Had an excellent lunch at the sandwich shop across from the station. Drove through Antonito but didn’t stop. Took the Antonito to Cumbres Pass trip in 1997 and look forward to taking a trip from the Chama end soon as I’m now retired or rather terminally unemployed.

Yes, we’re going to Verde Valley in Arizona.

Oh Yes! I am doing the full Colorado circuit this year; C&T, D&S, Georgetown Loop, Royal Gorge, and Pikes Peak! Plus the National Garden Railway convention in Denver! I’m not sure that two weeks will be enough time! So far this year I have already rode the Cass Scenic Railroad’s railfan weekend. I love the smell of coal smoke in the morning! JK

My Google news says Tennessee Valley Rairoad I running an “Arrow Train” to the Great City of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

I am trying to schedule a 9 day Colorado trip for early fall to all the tourist rails there. I want to go Amtrak but am having the devil trying to schedule with them. The dates dont jive, service isnt available, or equipment isnt available. So I wont be going. Im sure Im not the only one who would ride trains a lot more if there were some!
