Darn I’ve been more relaxed and happy since I got my layout together. Have they helped you?
I dont have a layout assembled yet, but I can say that they often take the stress away from the day when people, whether at the job or on the road tend to make me angry. Stress is not good for anyone, so I think its quite important to have something to take that stress away. Trains is a perfect thing to accompli***hat. Even now when I see the real trains on the railroad I just have a sit and watch them go by and look at the freight cars too. Takes my mind off the job for a bit.

It does relax when everything works, though I also had some small frustrations to get it working the right way.
Yes, a “non working” item CAN cause some stress, especially for an “electrical dunce”, like me. It’s one reason I’ve avoided today’s Hi-Tech wonders and run mainly postwar. I’ve found a great stress reliever is “retirement”. Joe
Yes with a couple of beers and my dog JANE by my side on a Friday or Saturday night, like the famous beer add, (Old Millwaukee) says, “It dosen’t get any better then this”.

Since I retired (two years ago this week), the stress is gone.
When I was working, I’d often go downstairs and run the trains for ten minutes or so to clear my head before I left for the office.

I find it relaxing as a whole because it is a change of pace.

If you asked a real railroader if trains help them relax, then I believe you’d find the answer to be “no.”
However, if you ask model railroaders, they would say “generally, yes,” except for the instances when things break or go haywire.
I’ve seen a few modelers get too intensive in overbuilding or going beyond their comfort level in skills, and get burnout.
I’ve had stress relief in both running my three rail trains in circles, and switching a yard, on a friends highly detailed HO railroad. One more reason that it’s a great hobby!

Relaxing? I’ve had one locomotive at a shop being cleaned and lube for over a month now. I have another at Charles Ro in need of a new reverse board. That’s been there over a month as well, and it will most likely be another few weeks at least! I’ll relax when my trains are home and they run the way they are supposed to.

I work 12 hour rotating shifts and go to school will papers and hundreds of pages to read a week [sigh]. When I get stressed, I go for a smoke break, Steam Engine smoke that is[:D] Working on the layout, running trains, working on a broke train or accessory, or just doing preventative maintenance it does let me release.

I find model railroading and real railroading very relaxing. Whether its on my O gauge layout, building a layout for someone else, or the Adirondack Scenic Railroad as a conductor. Its all relaxing, though I do admitt there are some aggrivating times, but hey, its funny solving the problem.
Amen to that. Also I forces me not to get too imersed with my computers if I have to check on my running trains every 10 to 20 minutes.

After a hard day at school, there is nothing like coming home, grabbing a Pepsi, Rally, or Sams Cola (I don’t care for Coke to much), then turning on the trains.
Nothing like watching your cats try to attack a moving Lionel and running away in firght.
Trains are the Perfect stress releiver.
Sometimes, when I can’t go to sleep, I put on my can-motored Erie Hudson, instead of my 2055 or 2343, and let it run around the track, pulling a long line of freight cars. It can’t always put me to sleep, but sometimes it does.

when you ae operating in private.
but when you show it off for guest-------LOOKOUT!!!

How can I relax with all this goin on?
