trains in the pisgah forest north cariolina

i am tranisfering form the golconda job corps center in illionis. to the schenck center in the pisgah forest are there any railroad right of ways in that part central north carolina.

Jackpot my friend:

CSX - The old Clinchfield & NS Out of Ashville going North

There is Spencer North Carolina and a bunch of other lines hither, thither, and yonder. The old Saluda Grade also comes to mind even though it probably isnt being used anymore.

And since you are so close to Brevard, NC you can always stop by Dillsboro and check out the site where they filmed the train wreck scene in The Fugitive.

how far is the csx line from the center. can i walk to it in the woods. what other main lines are near the center or in the woods. and can i get close enough to take pictures.

The town of Marion NC would be where I would make my Point of Beginning This is the CSX mainline, former Clinchfield) running from Greenville SC to Elkhorn KY (I think) a very fine example of modern construction techniques. NS has its mountain mainline going NNE from Asheville.

There is also the short Line Yadkin Valley RR that runs from Winston-Salem to North Wilkesboro & WS to Mt Airy (of Andy Griffith fame), Also the Winston-Salem South Bound (South from WS of course), NS of course has its Salisbury mainline to Asheville that runs very close to Mt. Pisgah National Forest. Of course we have a legion of local historians in almost every small town where the tracks run to keep you filled in on almost any happening that happened or might happen on the rails “there abouts”

Look forward to having you join us Tar Heels down this way.
