Got my paws on an advance copy at the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) from Kevin Keefe. Looks good. A lot of short line articles (gee, you think they timed it right?! LOL) Another good column by Don Phillips about a new book on great railroad personalities. First year TRAINS has had a booth at the show. Biggest show in several years with over 1,100 industry folks packed into the Orlando Marriott. Lots of good toys and a great simulator brought in by the NARS folks.
I do wonder what show this was, and were was it located? It sounds interesting and cool. I also wonder if this copy of ASLRRA is going to be on sale at newstands?
WoW, I am just loaded with all kinds of questions here!
ASLRRA = American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association
And no you don’t need to be a short line RR to attend. There is quite a fee though. Great show though. As I said, the show was at the Orlando Marriott. You can still view the details at www.aslrra.org.
I have never been to the short line, but every four years there is a huge railroad show in Chicago, including outside exhibits of locomotives. I went in 1996. The simulators are great.
This is by far the best issue in a long, long time. Roy Blanchard’s shortline piece is some excellent reading. But the best item of all is the first part of the Stagger’s Act 25 evaluation by Jason Gallinger. I thought that by and large the article fairly explored both sides of the captive shipper issues. Kudos to TRAINS for again tackling the tough issues!
