Dislike. I’m planning on riding Amtrak June 19th. I hope it’s all clear signals by then!

Agreed, Robert. This is a huge problem with first world countries.
I also think we in the Cities can barely finish transport projects, although they are designed poorly.

It’ll be awesome to come into that station instead of the sterile midway station. I can hardly wait.

Google maps has street view inside the new station, it is very cool.

This delay boarders on ridiculous. For any employer I’ve worked for, if I was in charge and responsible for this deliverable, I would have been fired by now. Where’s the accountability?

This seems to be a lesson in “just because it can be done, doesn’t mean it should be done.” With the future of the Empire Builder somewhat in doubt given Amtrak’s challenge to Congress to fund LD’s separately from the NEC, this whole thing may just be all for naught.

Interesting that throughout its pre-Amtrak history SPUD never had an interlocking and all switches were thrown by hand. I understand the need for modern safety devices but this seems like overkill for one train each way per day.

…and, to think, you could once ride at 70+ mph between Chicago and Milwaukee, over jointed rail, through city streets, over numerous grade crossings, under cheap trolley wire, using trolley poles (put up at speed northbound - no harnesses - no spotlight), over the elevated around the loop, and you could ride up front.

With today’s regulators, the CNS&M would have run its first train some time in 1947.

A passenger On #8 Monday tells me that the conductor announced over the PA that it would be May 7

Let’s get this done!! By the way, at Union Station (VIA)in Winnipeg, I pay $10 per day for parking indoor at the CN garage. Locked, safe, and secure so I am glad to pay.

I’m disappointed that I won’t get to go through SPUD when I take the train to Minneapolis in April. I guess it should be done by next year. At least they didn’t tear down SPUD as was done to the GN Minneapolis Depot.

The May date may be the latest target since National Train Day is Saturday May 10. I’ll be returning from Montana on May 11th so I will depart Midway and return to SPUD. That should be interesting! By the way, SPUD parking will not be FREE, the Midway parking was 24 hrs free with a permit so a friend could drop off your vehicle the day before your return. Very Convenient!! NOW VERY EXPENSIVE! I guess St Paul needs every penny it can pinch after all the $ put down the Light Rail sink hole.

it is about time that Amtrak run service to columbus Ohio ed Columbus was served by the Norfolk & Western. This is another State capital with out passanger service Its is long over due a return of passanger service!

I’d like to see a breakdown of the renovation costs of St.Paul Union Depot. They spent a huge amount of money on it and it hardly looks any different.
