Trains News Wire EXCLUSIVE: CN to sell Illinois Central E8s at auction

E-8s are pretty nice locos. With what seems to be a trend toward saving/restoring what little is left, these two should live on in high style. Interesting to see what transpire.

Isn’t it time BNSF bought back some of their heritage and joined the covered-wagon club?

Let’s hope both of these units, as well as the AGAWA business car, land in a museum or another railroad that will appreciate and care for them.

Paging Ed Ellis…Mr. Ellis…

Our bid is in.

Mr Ellis good to hear. Thx IGN

Oh to hit the big lottery…but I’m only dreaming!

I hope Ellis gets these units. Maybe the units can be used on the Pullman restored cars and run on their own schedule and leave Amtak at home.

Hope you get them Mr Ellis they be in good hands I know.

Hope they find a home and are not scrapped.

It’s cool to see Mr Ellis is here!

When was the last time CN donated to a museum? In the US? Will you auction back the ‘Mainline of mid-america’ back to us also? Please?

More proof that some companies (Norfolk Southern) care about their past, and others (any company headed by EHH now or in the past) just care about $$$.

I saw one of these units on the CN Christmas train several years ago in Onarga, Ill. Best pic I ever took. I got it framed.

I am sure Mr. Ellis would give them a good home. They would also look nice with the Illinois Central painted cars at the Monticello Railway Museum.

Would be nice to see them stay in IC paint! Wish they could have made it to streamliners at spencer. It would be a great addition to monticello RR museum.

Years ago I got an HO scale model of #100 from CN that still adorns my desk. I live close to the Woodcrest Shops and have seen #100 a number of times. I’m sad to hear it will be leaving Homewood soon.

Canadian National apparently has no appreciation of its heritage like Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, and rival Canadian Pacific.
