FYI the 4859 is also historic in another respect; it is the only one remaining still lettered in Loewy’s original "Futura " style rather than the later and more common “Sans Serif” lettering.

The first train ride that I ever had was with a GG-1 out of Newark, NJ Penn Station in the late 1940’s. I also recall a vintage GG-1 being stored for several years in the NJ Transit Hoboken yard. Wonder what ever happened to it?

Raised in the west, I never was able to see the GG-1 work. But it was, is, some piece of machinery.

Great photos- thanks. I was up on the State Street Bridge, enjoying the view from there.
Glad to hear the GG1 and cabin car will be returned to the shed when work is finished. They are a wonderful display and a great asset to the station.

Gene F. Opdyke. The last I saw 4877, she was painted back to Brunswick Green and went to the Railroad Museum of New Jersey. If I’m wrong about her location, please correct.
