No food service they must be nuts
Everybody seems to forget that rather than being an interloper, Amtrak was created to relieve the railroads of the cost of maintaining and operating passenger trains. Why are the railroads being let off the hook for on-time performance?
How did “food and beverage service” get into such a high priority subject? Elimination of the California High Speed Rail funding seems like a high speed political death bullet. How can California, that has more than 1/3 Rd of the west coast mileage and 37 million people, not get the same priority as the NE Corridor?
I wonder if it would make any difference if freight railroads that host Amtrak trains could get tax breaks for losses incurred by hosting the trains, and tax breaks for operating the trains consistently on time when it is within their dispatching power to do so?
