How awful! Use the former Milwaukee Road Lake St. grade depression. This awful plan is a non starter.
Considering all the opposition from the well-to-do NIMBYs along the route, both in Minneapolis and the suburbs, I will be surprised if this ever gets built.
At almost $1,000,000,000 a mile it would be better to bag the LRT, buy some more buses and forget the whole mess even happened. Who says expanding freeways is more expensive than light rail? This borders on criminal. Did anyone ask the people if they even wanted it at this price?
So busses are the panacea of our transportation, eh Bobby McGuire? I take it you hate passenger trains. Are you related to the Koch brother? For obvious reasons, they passenger rail as well.
Real progress could be made once they get the NIMBY and granola-munchers’ lawsuits out of the way. I wonder how much money gets wasted on environmental bureaucracy and legal fees from lawsuits on projects like this?
Actually, it is about $100 million per mile. That is still a lot, but what does a mile of urban interstate cost? How many people will use it compared to the interstate?
