Looks like maybe they were pushing too hard and hopper cars in the back ground flipped over on the bend and took the locos with it.

The IMRR 30 was righted back on the rails when I arrived at the derailment sight about 4:30 Friday afternoon. I suspect Brandon is correct about the cause of the derailment.
What happened to make it roll over?

I always loved seeing these things running in Pekin do to the obvious uniqueness of them.
What happened? As far as you can see in the picture, the rail is not broken and there are no switches. The locomotive appears to have toppled over when moving slowly as there are no apparent broken windows or piles of ballast pushed up.
It sounds like an switch that was trown wrong.
Hopfully scraping happy gennese and wyoming doesnt make toasters of it.

I don’t know what kind of work you do but if you were a working man, you would be thankful for the job protection other union people enjoy. Looking at the tracks it looks like the left rail bends outward to the left and the right rail bulges to the right. Cause of the accident or a result?
There might be a switch somewhere in that mess. You can see a line of hopper cars tilting, and in front of them a string of tank cars. This seems to indicate two side-by-side tracks which could connect with a switch. I can imagine the words uttered by the crew, assuming two, as the engine started to roll, were “Oh, thit!”
Unfortunately we have fools who just have to bring their anti- Pres. Obama nonsense to this forum. Then when they are called out on it we have other fools who defend their nonsense because apparently they don’t like the truth.
Once again its our friends on the left calling for silence! And, once again, the “who what where when and why” are left out of the story.
Mel and Mo, how about lightening up with the coarse language… While I agree that political commentary is generally not relevant in this forum, I don’t think it’s the appropriate place for profanity, either.
