Trains News Wire EXCLUSIVE: Refurbished ‘Texas Eagle’ station dedicated
Well, it was never a “breezeway” but a porte cochere…and many a station had one at the advent of the automobile age.
I remember that station when I used to visit my grandmother in Longview about 60 years ago.
Like this. The old waiting room was not capable of holding all the souls transferring off the bus. Now, if there were a cafe or saloon nearby (there are some good ones but a long walk from the station).
Kudos to the City of Longview! As I remember, the Longview station was a dump; now the station is a treasure and will certainly attract more ridership for the Texas Eagle.
Hooray! Something to look forward to in three weeks! Also nice to see Mr. Colton is still there - my folks and myself have always been treated well on the many occasions we’ve used the Eagle since 2004.
I have a feeling I know the answer to this, but I do wonder, did the platform by the track is retaining its original length? If so, did they add ramps or other elevated areas just like La Plata and other intermediate stations? That’d make for some interesting shots for the rail-fans up there.
This is another example that small rural communities that re served by rail are serious about keeping their train service.
