What about the turntable? Is it large enough?

Yes, it’ll fit on the turntable. A quick look at the measurements will prove that, plus they’ve already stated they’ve checked. The turntable is 100’ and 1309 has a wheelbase of just over 88 feet.

How are they going to do it without a large backer like UP?

Long live steam!!!

Good to see history coming to life ! I can’t wait to ride behind her .

Steam is king. Excellent news.

Will this thing even fit the turntable in Frostburg?

I would hope one day that it could again travel on home rails through West Virginia if CSXT would oblige.

Cool, cool, cool!

Terrific news!

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were forced to truck it to Cumberland. I’ve heard that CSX won’t allow steam on their rails whether in steam or dead-in-tow.

It has been a great couple of years for steam restoration…
4014 - 611 - 1309

Thank you for sharing this great news. I agree, this has been a great year for steam in the USA.
Shameless plug…
The Illinois Railway Museum will have steam in operation again after 9 years with out. The 1630 lives again!!

Please correct the link to the Western Maryland Scenic Website, It should be a .com verses a .org.
Thank you. Cannot wait to see the 1309 in action.

To Theodore Illl:

God bless the Illinois Railway Museum, and God bless that old Bolshevik!

I’m talkin’ about 1630, NOT Vladimir Lenin!

Well done IRM!

Good Lord, it just gets better and better.
Steam rules!

Just a postscript: I’m assuming CSX is OK with this, they’ll have to move it on CSX rails to get it out to the WM. CSX hasn’t been too antique friendly lately.

I’d have preferred to see them resurrect the “President Washington” ot the “Big Banana”, but no matter, that’s just me.

Way to go WM!

Although far from being a Baldwin fan, methinks that is a cool-looking locomotive. Best of luck with the restoration.

What was the Gabby Hayes word?
“Thunderration.”
A blatant theft by that “other” coast from the Left Coast of the exclusivity and prestige of stabling a restored articulated Mallet.
“Gol’ Dang It,” quoth George Gabby.
The Pacific Locomotive Association, dba. the Niles Canyon Rail(way?) holds the award for 1st to restore 1 to running capability.
