Trains News Wire EXCLUSIVE: Wisconsin & Southern goes the extra mile for customers cut off by derailment

WSOR has been running extra trains on the Waterloo Sub east of Madison to allow loading of frac sand trucked down from the Northern Divn to the Michel’s Pit east of Waterloo. Only 5 or so cars a day but the customer is being taken care of.

Never have heard the cause of the accident. Was it signal failure or crew failure, and which railroad was responsible? Come on Trains, inquiring minds want to know!

I was in Slinger tonight and saw that there is at least one large section of panel track sitting right on top of the WSOR main track at the CN interchange…also there were lots of workers there seemingly working diligently at 5:30 p.m. so I would not say they are dragging their feet. In addition, one of the derailed CN units was sitting on a very short siding on the WSOR sided of the interchange…it looked really bet up.

You folks are the best

Hats off to WSOR management and employees who are
working to keep freight moving to and from their customers. The"can do" spirit is something we don’t see much of in
the 21st Century.

Sounds like CN is dragging it’s feet on fixing the interlocker and forcing watco to spend time and money they don’t need to or have. Shame on you CN.

Now that’s customer service!

The Northern Division crosses the Union Pacific’s Adams Subdivision, which runs between Milwaukee and St. Paul, near Randolph, but the grade-separated crossing precludes an easy connection there.

I don’t understand. If the crossing is grade separated, how can there be an interlocking?

Can someone straighten this out? What really is the situation here and what happened?

One version is that the WSOR left a portion of their train in the interlocking limits, and the CN must have passed a red signal to have collision. How did WSOR leave part of train in interlocking limits ?

The WSOR train made a unprotected reverse move into the interlocking in front of the CN train, two switches were destroyed.
Both switches are of a custom size and it was not just a matter of repair or dropping in a new panel. The new switches were installed Saturday during a ten hour work block ahead of what was expected.

Sounds to me the CN is dragging there feet. How much work is there to put the switch back in place? TRAINS you still haven’t reported who is to blame! I hate to say this but sounds like the CN train was at fault. You had to have a red signal if someone was in the interlocking.
