Trains News Wire FLASH: MM&A to become Central Maine & Quebec Railway
Jim, I’m afraid the B&A and the B&M will never be seen again, except in museums and on model railroads.
Mr. Price, the line is former CP.
Mr Price from what IIRC from the pictures jointed rail. Operation on track warrant.
Mr. Price, the line was ABS until shortly before Canadian Pacific sold the line in 1994. CP took out the signal system and the line has most likely had very little proper maintenance since then.
How about Bangor and Aroostook!
What kind of shape is the railroad in. Does it have ribbon rail? Is it signaled with abs twc or ctc? It was a former cn/cp main? Anybody?
Pictures I’ve seen of the MM&A infrastructure show, even back when it was used, large stretches of the main line (not sidings, or out of use branch lines) overgrown with weeds. Everything I’ve seen suggests its in very poor condition.
The MM&A was the former CPR line from Quebec Province to Saint John, NB. MEC had trackage rights from Matawamkeag, ME to Vanceboro, ME/McAdam, NB, the route of “The Gull”, from BON. CPR carried “The Gull” to Saint John. CNR picked it up, there, for Halifax and Sydney, NS destinations. Eastern Maine Railway (EMRY - an Irving Co. property) owns the line from Brownville Jct., eastward. It is a vital route for their oil refineries in NB. Dunno, me, if PAR still has in interest in the area.
