Without delving into the technical details, follow are two observations; first is that the Washington D.C. Metro was from the beginning designed to be automated and w/o an operator. It is just now getting back to the original concept after a failure of the software.
Second, after a couple of weeks in Copenhagen riding the completely automated subway (you can stand in front and watch the way ahead…no engineer, no cab control to your right), one can only conclude that it is an accomplished fact. The ontime performance was usually on the money.
