Anyone out there used the trainscapes HO modules?
I am thinking about building them.
Thanks
Tom
Not familiar with this standard. I do like the idea of the HOTrak and Freemo modules though.
Take a look here, and follow the “Links” on the link page.
Andrew
You can see them @ www.trainscape.com
you sure? nothing there but a server message.
Jay
Your link took me to a notice from “NetBenefit” that someone has registered trainscape . com.
Is it a “prebuilt” like the Rocky Ridge or Grand Valley modules from Woodland Scenics?
Andrew
Sorry I forgot an “s”

I have sene the Trainscapes modules my self. I like the concept and am thinking on possibly doing their Modulde B,D,E,A,E,C Combo as kind of a one off project. This will give me a chance to evaluate the system and see if I cant work out an arrangment with them to offer their componets “ready for Installation” through my business. This will give me a chacne to use some of the items that don’t quite fit into what I am modeling that I have picked up over the years by happenstance.
James.
Yea I looked at them before, although nice, they just didn’t fit me.
Jay.
They seem like a good idea, but there are standards for modules already (see my message above). It looks liek these are not interchangeable with, for example, HOTrak modules.
Also, the radii used for loops within a module seem awefully tight… 1/2 circle in 2’10" means your radius is 17" (1’5" ) - probably less if you assume there is a little space between the track and the edge of the module. You will not be running 6-axle diesels with articulated Auto-Max cars on that! You will be limited to 4-axle or small steam, with cars 50’ or less. Now, if that fits your plan, that’s great. If you are planning a modern layout with long cars and engines, you may have some problems.
You might want to look at the www.woodlandscenics.com version of this kind of module.
Good luck!
Andrew
Woodland scenics does not offer modules, in the same fashion as trainscapes. Woodland scenics offers a whole 4X8 layout in a box. You still have to build the benchwork, lay the road bed, do the scenery construction.
On the trainscapes modules, this has already been done. Your benchwork is done, (Save for building a proper shelf to set it on) your roadbed is laid, and gradiants already figured, and the basic scenery forms and detail is in place, All one has to do at that point is lay down the sectional track to the trackplan specified, wire it up, paint the scenery and add the finishing layer, (i.e. ground foam, trees ect)
This saves I estimate about 40% of layout construction time as vs at most maybe 15% with the woodland scenics method. The only thing woodland scenics does is just offer everything in one backage for assembly.
Note, this is just my comparison of the two systems based on their information found on ther websites. I do not have any actual expereince with iether of these manufactures layout systems.
James.
Ok the web site seems dead. Does anyone know if they went out of business?
