Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Trainz 2004? The local stores here only sell games like Half-Life and Warcraft…
(yes, eBay is an option, but some sellers don’t ship up here to Canada
)
Theres always P2P networks[:-^] Big download though.
hmmm if you have any clubs or museums that are completely about trains they might be able to help out. there’s a small museum near me ran by a train club that sells old used magazines for 25 cents apeice! also you could probably order a back issue from Trainz.
Amazon.com lists the Trainz 2004 simulator. Try here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index%3Dvideogames%26field-keywords%3Dtrainz%202004%26results-process%3Ddefault%26dispatch%3Dsearch/ref%3Dpd_sl_aw_tops-1_videogames_5717010_2/002-0553034-7397623
I think you can order Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004 directly from Auran, at www.auran.com. Or, you could wait, and spend the extra money to get TRS2006![:D]
Or, wait until TRS2006 comes out and pick up a copy of TRS2004 for cheap! [:)]
Or you could do that, but then you would have to spend money on TRS2006 sooner or later. I may just have to get my copy of TRS2006 when it comes out.[:)]
For those that have used Trainz and the Microsoft product - which do you prefer and why? From what I can see they are both good products and one really can’t go wrong with either - but I would like to hear from y’all anyways.
I like MSTS the best, partly because its very realistic, partly because I lost my Trainz seial # and never have been able to download it.
I got my trainz at Circuit City .
I seen MSTS at Walmart for $10.00
They’re really two different animals.
If you want to drive prototypical trains through someone else’s (very realistic) scenery, that is, drive a “real” locomotive, then MS is your best choice.
If you want to build your own world, layout, or replica of a real line using fairly intuitive and easy to use software, building mountains, carving rivers, placing towns and industries, and then run operate trains in a less realistic mode, then Trainz is it.
I prefer Trainz, personally. Haven’t played MS for quite some time.
And Trainz does have continuing support and growth.

Walthers has Trainz listed. I have both MSTS and Trainz. I like them both. I like Trainz maybe a tad more then MSTS as you can run it like a model rail road with DCC. However I must admit I’m not computor smart enpough yet to get full utilization out of either on of them. Ken
It depends what you want to do with the programs. In general, my opinion, having both, is that MS Trains Sim looks a bit better but is awkward for switching, and seems to be more of a railfan’s piece of software.
Trainz, otoh, seems to be more of a builder’s/operator’s program.
Also, last I heard MS pulled the plug on any newer versions of Train Simulator. If so, I would ASSume it’s only a matter of time before they also drop any support of it as well.

True… the only place where you’ll find MSTS are in department store discount bins
Luckily, MSTS has a HUGE community that figured out things about MSTS that MS themselves didn’t know of. Support on the product is not dependant on MS providing it. You’re better off with the community support.
MSTS also has a lot of freeware and some payware add-ons both in archive as well as under development. All of this is community-driven, so MS is all but completely out of the picture.
Also, keep an eye out for the development of Kuju Rail Simulator… They have a seperate forum over at train-sim.com where they involve the community in features to-be-included and keep them up-to-date on progress.
Hey If ya have a local Wally World close to you. You should stop by and check them out to see if they have a copy of Trainz 2006. I got mins there for only $20.00 dollars. I hear that its alot easier that the 2004 copy. Kevin
What is this, a question from two years ago that has been resurrected? I have had Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006, a 3-CD set, for over a year now.
If you really want Trainz 2004 and not the newer 2006 version, you can probably download it from the author’s web site, http://www.auran.com in Australia.
