I’ve finished the Lounge and 1 coach. The Walthers lighting kits need to have a longer wire from the board to the strip so that it can be hidden in the corner. I also glued the end panels directly to the inside of the car because “floating” there was too much of a gap in the window. All car windows touched up with Alclad II green. Does anyone have an eta for the Dining Car Interior?? (Coach- 2 pics then Lounge:)
I used a light coat of Alclad on this SF car to allow the interior to be seen. The is a comparison of the Walthers new on the left and Alclad on the right.
It has taken a good turn for detail and your work has contributed to the progress also. All of us have enjoyed seeing the Alclad process and learning from your experience. Thanks for sharing.

This is the lounge with some passengers installed. The tint is not what I wanted but will get an addtional coat to darken.
But, imho, it’s all of our efforts combined that really help. Model railroad manufacturers regularly check this and a slew of other forums (inspite of the occasional “battles”) to check what modelers are buying, creating, modifying, thinking, etc.,.
Although I don’t gamble, I’m sure one would win a bet stating that Walthers’ reps have viewed this thread!
I’m just happy that passenger rail modeling is alive and well. As much as it’s criticized, Walthers really gave passenger modeling a big shot in the arm when the newly tooled passenger cars in Budd, Pullman Standard, and ACF flavors hit the market back in the early 2000s. Before that, the best plastic RTR Budds we had were generic Rivarossi units.
Jason Shron and his crew gave us another big boost with the very successful Canadian which raised the bar even higher.
Although I’m certain that the younger “under 30” generation will soon be pushing for the more modern equipment (Bombardier, Siemens and those weird “M8” things from Kawasaki [:P]), I hope that interest in the pre-Amtrak era and the early Amtrak era remains strong and hopefully continues to grow.
Please forgive this questions as I think you answered it before on another thread but I don’t know which one.
What technique, materials, or equipment do you use to produce the antimacassars on your seats? They look excellent! Are these decals or stickers? I’m looking for a simpler method as I find painting anitmacassars quite tedious.
This was my initial post…there’s more pictures posted last week at the bottom of page 1 including the Diner. Having issues with lights working after squeezing the cars back together. When they all work I’ll post some night pictures on the layout.
I put regular bulbs in the lower level at first, but didn’t like the way they looked with the Walther’s LED lighting kits. Now I’m reinstalling LED’s instead or both on some cars.
