TransCanada eyes shipping Keystone XL oil by rail
If you remove the issue of global dependence on oil, I am glad to see the roads getting their act together along with state and federal agencies to do this in a safer manner, albeit in a piecemeal manner. The back story is that Canada is the one who will largely profit as this oil is intended for export. Outside of a pipeline construction period, employment would not see any significant increase nationally, but…if one of our key industries ( the railroads ) can profit from this, why not?
Also the tank manufacturers as well…heavy industry needs all the help it can get.
There are, what, 30 permanent jobs to come out of the Keystone XL in the end?
Keystone was designed to bring oil down to existing pipelines at Cushing OK. If it can bc come by rail and transladed to pipeline in NE then why not use that routing.

Take that, treehuggers and sycophant politicians.
Finally, an intelligent conversation in the comments section… There is plenty of business out there for both of these operations. Rail is here now & ready to roll. Hopefully they can handle the cars. Pipeline is a legitimate business also, and good on them if they can get the approvals & money & get it built
COST to consumer.
Safety for residents.
Build the pipeline - a long extended tank Bruce
by the way ;removing the issue of global dependence is not gonna happen [what does the train run on?( beside tracks)]
Well put Bruce.
I see the pipeline as an extension of Canada’s infrastructure. But a safer version of crude by rail could be a huge benefit to OUR country’s infrastructure. Rail offer’s real jobs, not just some “operator” in front of a computer screen monitoring hundreds of miles of pipe. Also, you can’t ship grain or car parts through a pipe; when the music stops on peak oil, efficient and versatile transportation systems (like rail) are going to be very important.
rail option works the best overall- new cars will be coming on line-old ones retrofitted good.long term bet, for success and good for environment
