I have several old Lionel transformers that no longer work. I am not willing to pay the high amount of postage needed to have them repaired, so am looking for options on how to dispose of them properly versus sending them to a landfill.
Any ideas?

Scrap yard? Lots of metal there.
Or the internet scrap yard…EBAY!!! [:D]
Lots of working and not working transformers are sold there. One man’s junk is another mans bar-of-gold.
What kind are they? I might be interested in them if they are fixable.
Yes, post them here. Maybe someone needs parts. I need parts from an “s” type myself.

Yep, I’ll second that. I recently purchased a non-functioning RW for $13.99 shipped and after a little TLC it’s the best transformer on my layout. The seller listed it as $13 for shipping and $.99 for the opening price and I was the only bidder. Definitely a nice little bar of gold for me.
If you have a 1033 even non working it will almost certainly sell. Almost any transformer with a whistle that’s working or not will sell.
I’m waiting on delivery of Type “Z” that appears to be in excellent-minty condition and only paid $99 for it. I have an excellent guy that rebuilds transformers (Davis Lyons at http://www.lioneltransformer.com/
So even with a full rebuild, it’s a super good deal.

I have used Davis’s services myself. Good person to deal with. I also learned to repair them. Its not that hard.

I’ve got a couple of Davis’s transformers (a ZW and KW) and they both work great. And he stands behind any work he does. Great guy to do business with. I also ordered one of the big repair manuals. But things like pressing on new rollers I don’t have the specialized tools for to do it right.
I’ll take it. [:-^]
