[:D][:)][:)]
[:0] Wonderful photo, though one could feel that our rail system runs upon the
ground without rails…our locomotives have 4 legs rather than six axles and
finally, methane powered locomotives…!!!
(Well at least any further oil shocks should not effect this countries ability to
run its locomotives…)
From the looks of the fuel tank, it’s a General Electric U-boat, but I don’t know which one because I’m not that big a fan of diesel engines. As Cornelius Vanderbilt once said, “Give me a steamer and I can do something with it, but I won’t have anything to do with your darned diesel” – or something like that.
I would guess a plenty big one.
Keep the pix coming codyr,non-US rails are very neat.
it looks to be a “DX” class, which means it is a GE U26C. It is however 3’6" gauge, as are pretty much all New Zealand railways. Learn more about it here

here’s another one

They can be seen in some awesome settings

Actually I’m a steam man myself

BTW, NZ railways aren’t called Tranzrail any more; they are owned by Toll Holdings now and called Toll NZ or somesuch
well they better fix that logo then
They’ve started repainting. The new colours are green and gold. Couldn’t find any pictures on the web, sorry. As those are the national colours of Australia (Toll’s home country) they aren’t winning any points for cultural sensitivity!!
