Trees

I am looking for suggestions on making trees for my layout rather than buying them (an expensive propostion)…Can anyone sugget articles or books that might help me?..I want the trees on my layout to have a “fall” look…

Thanks for your help

There are as many ways to make trees as there are people on this forum, at least. A number of people on the forum at http://the-gauge.com have documented their methods, with pictures.

Generally speaking, it amounts to finding a plant that looks like a bare tree, preserving it, then spraying an adhesive on it and rolling it in moss or ground foam, letting it dry, and then planting it on the layout somewhere. The key really seems to be experimentation more than anything.

Toneek:
Golden Rod and Yarrow, both of which grow along the roadside and are free for the taking, make very realistic trees for your Model Railroad Layout.
Check this link on how I use Golden Rod to make trees. www.modeltrainjournal.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=615
Hope this helps,

I’ve had good results from here http://www.scenicexpress.com/supertrees.html

Search their site. They have some good books and manuals.

I am experimenting with selective compression - some trees will be far far away from me and can be modelled ‘looser’ than closer-up ones. I’m using the green and brown-coloured packing stuff that looks like shredded paper.

In addition to eZak’s suggestion, there are loads of good ideas to be had browsing your local craft store - Michael’s or Hobby Lobby
