Triple Crown chatter....

…Triple Crown passed down through Muncie this morning [headed south]about 9:40 and it was rather long with 2 engines. That seemed a bit early for it to me but suppose it is not on an exact schedule. [8D]

…when I clicked on this thread, I thought we were going to be talking about horses.

…We are, mechanical horses at the head of the load.

…still not quite what I was thinking [:)]

Was this on NS? If so,there were Thoroughbreds on the point!

…Some NS engines have an image of a horse on them.

…Yes…it is on NS.

NS is the only owner of Triple Crown

DOGGY

I thought Visa was the one who sponsered the triple crown.

Don’t forget CSX had roadrailers…oh wait they screwed that up too.

I got it. LOL

…Stopped by our Cardinal Greenway Trail today with granddaughter to do a bit of walking and she with her bike…[trail on ex CSX route], and NS, North / South route is parallel to it in center of town…and Triple Crown came by and I got a good look at it again…one 6-axle engine doing the honors and it must of had 80 cars on it. One item I took note to was how the main pipe air line hose is routed out through the truck on the side…Never noticed that before. Guess there is no way to fit it straight to each trailer as they are coupled so close, etc…He came rolling through Muncie so nice and smooth with just some flange squeal as it rounded the long courve at that area and headed for 2-8 -2’s area up north in Indiana and probably points farther north.

HEY YALL!!! Don’t forget about good ole Amtrak’s Roadrailers…the mail/express, and express traks.

There’s a Triple Crown facility here in Ft. Wayne. I drive by it after playing hockey because it really is on the shorter route.

There’s also a guy in a N-scale club I’m in that runs these things on the layout. Both Triple Crown and Amtrak. When the Triple Crown train tipped over, it took out all 3 main lines and we had 8 0-5-0’s putting them back on the rails!

I saw a triple crown on 4/20 in Dearborn ,Michigan at 10:25 pm and it had 2 engines ,both were c40-9w’s. The one in front was #9728

Do they still have them? I was in Jacksonville today and saw one (on the highway) still in Amtrak’s colors but lettered for Triple Crown.

Bert

They had a great parcel service going for a while but the budget cut backs from our good friends in Washington starved it to death.

Saw TripleCrown today at 1:30PM about 10 miles west of Eau Claire, WI on UP (exCNW) main. Two UP engines and 115 trailers heading toward St. Paul. Was moving probably 25mph. I wonder how fast the 400 would’ve moved along that stretch in its heyday. Anyway, I still loved every second of it.
