…I was surprised Saturday {about 1:45}, as Triple Crown rolled through Muncie on it’s way south. Guess I have always assumed it was a week day train. Two six-axle engines but not quite as many cars as I normally see on it. Didn’t count them but estimate perhaps 80-90 made up the consist. By the way it was a BNSF engine leading it.
Most TC trains run 6 days a week, like 251 that you saw. Monday is the day that is the quietest at Piqua Yard. Not many trailers delivered to the yard on Sunday to go out on the next train.
I notice that you typify much of the New Castle district traffic as “triple crown” in nature.
Most of the traffic I see on the NCD is container traffic headed north/west.
Are you not seeing those trains? (maybe it’s a time of day issue, I see them in the early-mid evenings
When you say “Triple Crown”, I assume you are referring to the rail-highway trailers and not trailers on flat cars?
Over here on the Chicago District, the 262 (Chicago eastbound) runs Saturday night, but not Sunday night. However, the inbound 261 and 264 run to Chicago on Saturday and Sunday.
Have you guys seen the FEMA trains lately? Havent seen one in a month or so…might be done.

Fema Trains: Yes, saw another one within the last week or 10 days ago…
Dave: Yes, our reference to “Triple Crown” is the road-rail trailers on boggy wheels.
AntiGates: No I don’t mean to imply the Triple Crown traffic is dominant…In fact I was at the depot yesterday afternoon and watched a double stack roll through south bound. And that is much of the traffic I happen to see on the north-south NS line here.
I just was a bit surprised to see the T C run on the weekend as I just was assuming {don’t know why}, it was a 5 day a week operation, hence the comment in my post.
Maybe it was the “first leg” of the Triple Crown.[:D][:D][:D]
OK, I was just curious. In times past you refered to the NCD as the “Triple crown” line, and it just got me to wondering.
Of course, come to think about it, for you that might be the only line you see TC trains on. Whereas up here, being the TC hub that we are, they are everywhere
Yes, Triple Crown passes through Muncie only on NS…None that I’ve ever seen over on CSX…Pretty sure none run on that line. Lots of double stacks and TOFC.
