Triple Crown

Imagine how surprised I was to learn my old Home town had become the center of the ANYTHING universe.

But the trains mag article only tells a portion of the story, as I’ve since been able to squeeze out of my old “homies”.

That Norfolk Southern had first opened up triple crown across the river from my child hood home, in a “twin siding” holding yard of the old Wabash, surrounded by vacant “rustbelt” industrial buildings, only to find it so wildly lucrative that it had to be moved to the east end of town, for larger quarters. My guess is to make use of the former Pennsey yard, that I guess fell to NS via the conrail split.

Which brings me to my point, a map would have been nice…=(

Both for the Triple Crown deal, as well as to get a peak at how the conrail pie was sliced with CSX in that town.

I know CSX has busily been pulling up the second line of the old Pensey main to chicago, which looked odd as heck when back on vacation 2 years ago, seeing all that ‘double main’ infastructure (bridges etc) stripped down to single line.
