Why does a trolleybus (a/k/a trolleycoach) use two trolley poles instead of one, as on vintage streetcars?
-
The trolleybus requires more power.
-
Rubber-tired trolleybus is not grounded; the second pole is for grounding.
-
Newer design keeps better contact with catenary wires.
-
Harmonically-tuned poles are for noise reduction purposes.
Hope y’all don’t mind one li’l wireheaded question?
Lotus, I hope this is OK with you.
