Trix Big Boy #T22594

I’ve been visiting my daughter near Omaha (she just had our first grandchild- a boy!!!) and had some time on my hands, so I visited some LHS’s. In one of the shops the manager let me look over his stockroom. I found a factory sealed Marklin box, with a brand new Trix Big Boy #T22594 (DC, no sound), he didn’t even realize he still had one in the stockroom.

We opened it up, and was amazed at the details and craftmanship…and promptly asked what was the best he can do on the price. How about $349…

Needless to say we had a deal (at least I think I had a good deal). I’ve heard that the sound version, #22599 wasn’t so great, and know of a few fellow modelers that had replaced the PC boards and sound.

I’m thinking of ordering the Loc Sound DCC/Sound Decoder #82454, along with the Loc Sound programmer.

Any thoughts on this price, Loc Sound and installation hints. Thanx

You got a very good buy indeed. I got a new DC version also, from Ebay.

Of about 100 steam locos I have, the good slow-runners are my Proto 2000’s and my Rivarossi Allegheny. Except my Trix; it is the best. It is mechanically superior in most respects to any of the others. Only thing I don’t like is the tender coupler. Unfortunately, the Trix Mikado is not as good an engine.

Please reconsider which sound to get. The Tsunami is superior to the Loksound for steam, and that is what I installed. The speaker mount is already molded into the Trix tender, so that part is easy.
