i have a trix big boy w/ dcc and sound . someone gave it to me . problem is the s shaped pipe that attaches the front set of drivers to a point on top of the front pilot is sitting in the box . my question is this how do i attach this part to this beautiful model. the parts diagram is very vague as to how this is done aof course the names r in german

Hi, Gene, and welcome. It would really be helpful if you could take a well-lit and well focused couple of photos and post them for us to see what you mean. I have a feeling you are talking about the steam conduit that takes steam to the front cylinders, but…it’s a guess.

If taking a digital image is no problem for you, and you already have a hosting photo site, such as photobucket or another of that type, just provide the URL for the full sized image hosted at that site and paste it into a text box here. Note that you will have to have the img tags at each end.

If you don’t have such an account, photobucket gives you one for nothing. You simply register and begin to amass a library of images. When you click on each thumb in your gallery, and drag your cursor downward and out the bottom, a drop-down menu appears. Click in the bottom choice which is the img tag one you need for this and most other forums. Right click and save, and then come here to paste it. You won’t need to add the img tags at photobucket because they are included in the last drop-down menu item.

i can get a digital pic tomorrow, but the s shaped pipe fits between the steam chest pipes u refer to and are the piece that hold the front driver assembly to the frame . via the s pipe connector it appears to me the short end of the pipe goes into a hole in the top front of the front pilot . not on the pilot but into a hole on the solid piece above the pilot the other end goes into a silver looking piece of metal that allows it to swivel left and right. i will get a pic of the s shaped piece

crandall i think i got the pics in the above link. also the german translation for the part is the vapor pipe . the upper end goes into a hole in the boiler lower part and the other end goes into the cover ?? that is the translation for all the parts

That’s the steam exhaust pipe. You’ll probably have to drop the front engine to reinstall it. I remember on the Rivarossi models that pipe was trapped between the top of the front steamchest and pilot deck, with the other end protruding into the smokebox.

Edit: On second thought, you should be able to get it back in by just removing the pilot deck.

nelson do u know of any trix repair shops in nj. after looking at the front engine assembly, it appears it has dropped out of its pivot hole on the frame. that allowed the exhaust pipe to fall out. beyond my pay grade to take it all apart. i live in south jersey so any repair shop info would be helpful

Gene, you are in very good hands with Nelson, but I thought I would add that Bill Ott at Modellbahn Ott Hobbies http://www.modellbahnott.com/ sells Trix and other European locos and stock. He must be able to do some repairs, I am sure. He is in Philly.

i tried modelbahn he only sells. i had similar problems with an atlas diesel the snap fitting that holds the worm gear in place came off causing the truck to drop. but the diesel is an easy fix compared to this beast especially since the xploded drawing for parts is in german.thanks for the info

the srew that screws down from the frame to the driver assembly is missing, need to track down correct size and problem will be fixed . talked to owner , it came from across the sea that way, so if any one knows the correct size metric screw this takes let me know (LOL)

If you can’t find anyone to fix it give me a yell. I do charge by the hr. You are probably looking at 6hrs. And at $75.00 an hr is will get expensive. Kidding, I’ll be more then happy to help ya out for nothing (maybe a free pack of kadee no. 5 couplers) [;)]

i found the shoulder screw stuck in the boiler of the engine, took apart worm drive put in screw replaced exhaust pipe put all back together , test run it and it runs great, not happy with the chuff sound, but thats another story. have to compare it with my precision craft big boy.

Good news, Gene. The screw must have worked loose in transit.
