Trix Pacific

I know very little about Trix steam engines. I can get a Trix Pacific for $125 - new at a store closing sale. Can anyone tell me how they compare to BLI or Spectrum?

Trix is made by Marklin of Germany. They are as good or better than anything made elsewhere. They may not be detailed for your railroad though.

3railguy,

I purchased an HO Trix 2-8-2 Light Mikado a few months ago and it is a wonderful piece of German engineering. In the opening paragraph of the July 2004 review in MR, Terry Thompson described the Trix Mike as

“…the best-looking mass-produced HO scale steam locomotive I’ve ever seen. Plus, it runs like a precision instrument. Is it perfect? Not quite, but it’s awfully good.”

Next to my Stewart FT, it’s the best running locomotive I have on my layout. I also have the BLI 2-8-2 and the Trix Mike is more smooth in it’s operation and - in my opinion - has a more realistic and" throatier" chuff than my “upgraded” BLI. (The whistle is better on the BLI Mike though.)

Now I don’t know how if that all transfers over to the O-scale. But knowing German technology and practices, I would have to say that the chances of getting a shoddy product from Marklin/Trix are pretty slim.

Thanks, guys!
