Trix UP Boxcars and kadee trucks

Hi all,

I recently bought the Trix UP 20 Box car set and was thinking about replacing the trucks on the box cars with Kadee trucks. I wanted to know if anyone has tried this before and if so what was the replacement Kadee truck part number.

At first: no i did not try this.

And: please allow the question why do you want to do this? The TRIX Bettendorf trucks are EXCELLENT! Not only in my eyes they look at least as good as KADEE - the springs (non functional) look even better. But the main part is that they roll better and stand better on track! Kadee trucks are equalized with bad looking (because of too thin wire) and still too strong springs. The weight to get a reliably riding car with KADEE trucks is excessive! I know many people who changed KADEE trucks to other - rigid - types.

For the case your trucks have the uninsulated wheels or Euro-style wheels with large flanges I would rather recommend to to replace these wheels with NWSL or others.

I am in the process of replacing the couplers on mine, as I don’t like how they stretch out on a long train, and bounce back when you uncouple them from the locomotive - an ongoing job of installing Kaydee No 5s and box, following removal of the originals - easy to do. I also put in some more weight - two x 2 pence pieces (British money… - the 2p is the unsung hero of my rolling stock - fits perfectly into a boxcar etc, and cheaper than using commercial products) - one above each bogie, glued to the deck.

I’d agree that the trucks are fine: I’m happy with mine anyway!
