Troller Transamp 1.0

Remember Troller Transamp transformers, still have one and has been working great. Problem now is it appears the potentiometer is not working. When I turn the unit on it is putting out a steady 12V to the tracks, and turning the potentiometer doesn’t change a thing. Is this a simple problem as I think it might be, just replace the potentiometer? Any feedback? And please don’t tell me to buy new or go command control, etc. As a lone operator my dual cab system is perfect!

Assuming that you didn’t recently change the track connections and accidentally connect the track to the “DC Accessories” terminals, it sounds like the pot is a dud. I don’t remember if they’re marked or not. If they are, then it shouldn’t be a big deal to get a pot of the same value and swap it for the old one.

Alternatively, you might ask around to find someone with a Transamp 1 that still works and open it up to measure the pot, but that’ll require breaking the connections to it and resoldering them.

Last but not least, you might check around at swap meets for another Troller. They usually go cheap in good condition around here.

Thanks for the info on the pot. I’ll reopen the case, take the pot to radio shack and find something close and we should be good to go.

Don’t bother. It is the circuitry and not the pot. This is the way that they die. I have one that I have been using for some time and when it goes, I’ll toss it and get an MRC replacement.

IWith Troller, avoid using Momentum and they last longer. With Momentum, they seem to burn out rather quickly.
