Yesterday afternoon I turned on my scanner to listen to the local San Diego trolley. There transit cops were kept busy. In 4 hours there were 2 reported near misses with autos. There was a gate crashed by a semi tractor-trailer. There were 3 reports of tresspassers on the tracks. There was a fist fight in one of the stations that ended inside one of the trolly cars. There was a “Near” fistfight between the engineer and a rider (that was removed in cuffs). And numerous reports of non-paying riders (also considered tresspassers). And this is on a sunday. I don’t listen to the trolly so I don’t know if this is normal but it was interesting. Oh and there were at least 2 gate runners license plate numbers reported, I wonder if they will get tickets?
Boy, I’d hate to live there if the weather got depressing!

Should be no surprises here. These things happened in the past, but its far worse today. Our PC, no accountability society has helped produce situations as described above. What should we expect? We reap what we sow! Very sad, indeed.
At least we haven’t had a berserk naked guy on our system yet this week!
Of course, at least if somebody did it here at 9 am, he’d be a little smarter at 57 degrees than the 31 in Chicago at that time. I guess the guy in Chicago was so “anestheticized” that he didn’t realize what he was freezing off running up the street.
Those transit policmen earn their pay. Hurray for them. If that is the number count in San Diego, think of the number of incidents that must be recorded each day in NY or Chicago!

One unruly drunk
but no gate crashers
and no near misses that I heard.
