truck size

Hi modelrailroaders I look like to know how you know what truck size is the best athearn train cars. I bought some Kadee wheel but when I put the wheels on the trucks they would not move freely they just sticked on to the trucks and the wheels did not move at all. What are the best wheels for Athearn trucks?[:D][:D]

Some Athearn ready-to-run models of rolling stock do not use a standard axle length on their wheelsets. The best cure for this problem is to replace the entire truck with Proto 2000, Kato, InterMountain, or some other brand.

Or if you have a lot of them to change out, you can ream the existing truck frames with a truck tuner to loosen them up for the slightly longer axle. Probably a LOT cheaper in the long run.

Ryan,
I’ve had good luck with Proto 2000 wheel sets on Athearn cars. You might try some. But, as cacole points out, it’s not 100%. Sometimes they don’t spin freely.
