One of the main differences between this forum, and some of the others, like “Trainboard”, “Atlas”, and “the-gauge”, is that when you post a response to someone’s request for help on those forums, it seems there is a follow-up “thank you” at least 80% of the time.
Here, the “thank you” follow-ups run around 20% or less. It’s not essential to get appreciation for assistace, but it’s the only way to know if the recipient even read the response, or tried the advice.In short, just a common courtesy.

Perhaps its a guy thing. I don’t consider it either way if someone doesn’t say thank you for advice.
BTW, how do you get your name in front of the date and time of your post? Mine only shows up as the date and time with no name in front of it.

It’s two fold, professional courtesy and the recommendation worked. Other viewers would also know that it worked or failed.
Ken, I don’t know how one gets their name & location in front of the date & time…it’s always been there, but I don’t recall anything I did to enable this feature. I notice most posters don’t have it. You’ll have to ask the forum administrators. Perhaps if you click above, on “update profile” then go to Customer Service, they can help you.

I asked the forum administrators that same question. On Jan. 6 I got an e-mail from Kalmbach Publishing Company Sales & Service saying that they had forwarded my query to Trains.com Editorial Department for further assistance. If I get a reply from them I’ll post it here for everyone’s info.
