Trying to find information about two freight yards on the CSX in johnstown

Trying to find out how many tracks were/are in the Washington St and Railroad St yards in Jophnstown, PA. Railroad St yard tracks have been removed and the CSX uses the Washington St yard. I want to model this two areas but cant find any information. Also looking for track information on the CSX line between Johnstown and Rockport, PA

Rockwood, the southern end of that branch ? About 8 miles SW of Somerset, and roughly 50 miles SW of Johnstown ?

Always was a B&O branch - did not come to CSX via ConRail spilt-up.

I didn’t see anything that looked helpful at “MULTIMODALWAYS - Railroad Archives”, see:

http://www.multimodalways.org/archives/rrs/rrs.html

Also, check out the “Penn Pilot - Historic Aerial Photographs of Pennsylania” from 1937 onward, at: http://www.pennpilot.psu.edu/ It’s pretty simple to use - just find one of that area from the desired time frame, download it, zoom in, and count/ sketch as desired, etc.

Look for any replies from Quentin/ modelcar here - he grew up about in the middle of that area - Stoystown, as I recall.

Johnstown Flood histories–both books and magazine/newspape articles–are good sources…I think TRAINS did an 100 year Anniversary(?) story on it at one time…lots of maps…

…Gentlemen: Regarding the CSX…formally the Somerset & Cambria branch of the B&O from Johnstown to Rockwood.

Paul has listed good starting points of info regarding taking a look at the line, etc…and other data as well.

Paul, you are right on…We’re from the little historic town {1778}, of Stoystown. Former spelling: Stoyestown. In fact, the sign on the depot at Kantner, {just down in the valley from Stoystown}, did indicate Stoyestown…and that very sign {and the restored depot} can be seen at the Lions grounds just below Stoystown currently. That is just about a mile {or less}, from it’s original location along side of said line…

We have been here in Indiana now for 49 years…so not sure how helpful we might be, but I’d certainly try.

I do have some photos of the restored depot but have never installed photos on here, but I could send them to Paul, {to install here}, or this inquiring gentleman can send me an email and I’d send them to him.

Who knows, in conversation…we might be able to pull up some info.

The branch line has held my interest for decades…One passes near or over crossings of it driving between Somerset and Johnstown, etc…so I was close to it back then…

It is still intact from Johnstown to Rockwood. Just in the past several years, the line that comes off at Coleman, and provides a route up to Shanksville, that lay dormant for many years, has been renovated, and is act
